Five Gables

Nestled on the scenic edges of the Lancaster Country Club and the Conestoga River, Five Gables integrates with the natural surroundings and is a welcoming beacon for the owner and golfer alike. The 8,500-square-foot residence replaces a smaller single-story home, expanding to meet the growing needs of the family while respecting the valued qualities of the site.

The home is comprised of a collection of five gabled structures, each tailored in size and height to meet specific functional needs: public, family living, kids, primary suite, and sports.

The design strategically shifts these gables along parallel paths, orienting interior spaces towards diverse elements of the surrounding landscape while at the same time shaping cultivated outdoor spaces. The gable elements are connected by a continuous single story flat roof element clad in nickel gap ceiling panels and punctuated by large skylights that integrate the white brick volumes into a unified village-like composition.

At the front, a pair of prominent two-story gables frame a landscaped parking court, discreetly concealing the views to the river beyond. The solid white brick façade is punctuated by black metal windows and capped by a slate roof with traditional copper flashing details. At the rear, the brick is eroded with large floor-to-ceiling windows and covered porches tucked below grand, louvered walls. The louvers serve as sun shields by day and transform the porches into glowing beacons by night, signaling the home’s welcoming presence near the golf course.

Internally, the home features natural materials, rich textures, and deep saturations of color that evoke a sense of warmth and sophistication. Cathedral ceilings mirror the external gables and are juxtaposed with cozy, intimate rooms, interconnected by seamless white oak flooring. Large sliding doors throughout the home connect to the bluestone patio and pool, creating an integrated experience for everyday entertainment and enjoyment.
