Engineering Lecture Hall
The renovation of UMBC’s Engineering Lecture Hall 027 repositions an existing instructional space through clarity of form, material, and performance. The design emphasizes legibility, of sightlines, acoustics, and technology, creating a cohesive environment that supports focused engagement.
New systems are integrated within a restrained architectural framework, allowing infrastructure to reinforce, rather than compete with, the spatial experience. The result is a durable, contemporary setting aligned with evolving modes of teaching and learning.

The lobby establishes a refined entry sequence, incorporating integrated seating to support informal collaboration and study. Its material palette anticipates the lecture hall, creating continuity between spaces. Building systems are concealed above a suspended wood panel ceiling, read as a continuous floating plane.
Within the lecture hall, faceted wood wall panels define the space. Their geometry establishes rhythm, conceals infrastructure, and supports acoustic performance through integrated absorption. Together, these elements create a cohesive environment where technical requirements and architectural expression are aligned.
