Greenbrier State Park Entry Improvements
Greenbrier State Park is located in the Appalachian Mountains and offers a wide range of outdoor recreational activities and includes a 42-acre man-made lake. This highly visited park experiences increased traffic volumes caused by an existing bottle-neck ticket booth creating undesirable wait times upon entry. The design team was charged with identifying a better entry sequence within the constrained site that fits the natural aesthetic of the park. The improvements include two dedicated inbound lanes with new entry fee collection stations, incorporating new technology to improve access to the park and reduces traffic congestion. The renovations to the existing camper registration station provide a fully accessible retail and orientation space for patrons and park rangers. The site strategy incorporates refinements to parking areas, traffic flow and stormwater management principles.
