Baltimore Pumphouse
A comprehensive master planning effort established the vision to transform the abandoned, historic Eastern Pumping Station into a multi-tenant development for The Baltimore Food Hub. The master plan is being implemented in phases to accommodate various programs and funding sources. The first phase stabilizes the site and introduces a new 10,000 sf facility to serve as a food service training center and kitchen for the non-profit Humanim’s City Seeds program. Stabilization of and restoration to the deteriorating historic structures is ongoing, with improvements designed to accommodate a variety of potential tenants while respecting the historic fabric and conditions of the State Historic Tax Credits.
Once complete, the LEED-ND-certified complex will be home to a collaboration of like-minded organizations, businesses and institutions working together to improve healthy eating/living in Baltimore, provide employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for low-income residents and revitalize the distressed Amtrak corridor in East Baltimore as one of Baltimore’s major gateways.
