Here is a thought provoking video on the relationship of nuclear energy to renewable energy. The following video relates specifically to the United Kingdom, but of course we are all connected.
It is interesting to note that the nuclear energy situation in Europe and the United States is very similar. Neither has had a new nuclear plant constructed since the late 70s (notably with the exception of Finland). In addition, both have a renewed interest in nuclear because of recent geopolitical and environmental developments.
