One Less Car - Saving Maryland One Car at a Time

One Less Car_Image 01

One Less Car is a Maryland-based organization that is working to provide alternate transportation options to the citizens of our state. Their mission statement is bold and progressive. I have seen many of their T-shirts and bumper stickers around and feel like this is a very well-organized advocacy group. Here is a description of the group in their own words:

" Welcome to One Less Car. We are your neighbors and friends and we want to improve the quality of life for all Marylanders. Our objective is to help reclaim our basic right to freedom of mobility. We are committed to reversing the harm done to our collective happiness, the unraveling of our communities, and the increased risks we face daily due to our society's focus on the automobile at the exclusion of other transportation modes.

Every day we advocate for providing safe and effective transportation alternatives for all citizens through education, lobbying, and facilitation between our communities, governments, and state and local representatives. We believe that Maryland can be an example of the economic and social good that comes from a society where everyone – regardless of age, physical condition or economic background - has the opportunity to bike, walk or use mass transit to get where they need to go."

Also fascinating is the "Baltimore City Bicycle Master Plan" that was published in 2006. I have been debating how to get involved to ensure that future cyclist commuters have a better riding experience than me. It appears that the work has already been done. Follow the link for more information on the Master Plan.
