Energy Focus is a lighting company that uses fiber optics to achieve dramatic reductions in energy consumption and heat. These fixtures also tend to be safer than traditional lighting because all electrical connections are made to a central light box and then only non-flammable, unwired fiber optic cable is laid to the actual light fixture.
Their EFO or Energy Efficient Lighting product range is especially interesting to sustainable designers because it touts an 80% reduction in energy consumption over traditional down lighting fixtures. HVAC loads are also reduced because of the decreased wattage going to lighting.
One major benefit is that these down lights can help a designer meet the ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1 watts/sf requirements.
