Reimagining the Jones Falls exhibition at The Peale
Ziger|Snead Architects is participating in Jones Falls 2076, an exhibition at The Peale that brings together artists, architects, and designers to imagine the future of Baltimore's historic waterway. On view through November 22, 2026, the exhibition explores how the Jones Falls might become a more accessible, connected, and ecologically resilient part of the city.
Ziger|Snead's installation, Projected Futures, examines the relationship between natural and engineered systems throughout the Jones Falls watershed. Since Baltimore's industrialization, channels, dams, reservoirs, roads, and other infrastructure have substantially altered the waterway and its surrounding landscape.
The installation combines a topographic model made from plant starch-based plastic with video projections. Stripped of human-made infrastructure, the model reveals the underlying hydrology of the watershed. Projected onto its surface are maps, drawings, collages, and video vignettes developed by individual members of the studio, examining existing conditions and exploring speculative futures at different scales. Together, the physical model and changing projections contrast the enduring natural systems of the watershed with the temporary nature of human intervention.
The exhibition features 14 newly commissioned works alongside a historical survey of plans and proposals for the Jones Falls. Building on a series of public workshops, it invites visitors to contribute their own ideas for the river's future. Organized by the Ecological Design Collective and curated by Bruce Willen with Anand Pandian and Lee Davis, Jones Falls 2076 encourages public conversation about the future of the river through exhibitions, workshops, and discussions.
