Architecture 2030

2010 Imperative_Image 01 Architecture 2030 is an organization started by an architect named Edward Mazria which is dedicated to reducing the global environmental impact of the building industry. Architecture 2030 recognizes that the building sector is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas production on earth and that a radical change in building design and operation is needed to make a significant impact.

Architecture 2030 has issued a challenge to the building sector, the 2030 Challenge. Please click the previous link to read terms of the challenge. I challenge everyone who reads this to adopt the challenge!!! (The link also includes a list of other firms that have adopted the challenge)

In summary the goals are:

  1. for all new buildings, developments, and major renovations... have energy consumption of 50% the regional average for the same building type
  2. an equal amount of existing buildings to be renovated annually to have energy consumption of 50% the regional average for the same building type
  3. increase fossil fuel reduction to:
    • 60% in 2010
    • 70% in 2015
    • 80% in 2020
    • 90% in 2025
    • and carbon neutral by 2030

These goals are broken down further on the Web site. For an overview of the 2030 challenge please watch the following Webcast, the 2010 Imperative.
