The Center for Parks & People Receives 2016 USGBC Wintergreen Award

On Thursday, January 27th, Ziger/Snead accepted a 2016 Maryland US Green Building Council (USGBC) Wintergreen Award for The Center for Parks & People at Auchentoroly Terrace

The Center for Parks & People includes a restoration of the park’s original 4,200 GSF superintendent’s house constructed in 1872, creation of a new network of public walking paths and gardens, and the design of a new 10,000 GSF LEED Platinum headquarters for the Foundation. A majority of the public space is dedicated to public use including teaching labs, reading rooms, community event space, seminar rooms, demonstration gardens, community composting center and new bike and walking paths. The campus design creates a didactic environment at every level that encourages the community to learn, grow and explore their natural environment. The Auchentoroly Terrace campus is the first permanent home for the 30-year old nonprofit, and supports the full complement of Parks & People’s 50 staff, its volunteers, and annual visitors.

The Wintergreen Awards celebrate, promote and recognize excellence in high performance, healthy design and building; environmental stewardship and community impact; and serve to highlight the green building initiatives and achievements of the USGBC Maryland community projects, businesses, local members and other individuals.
