MMA Capital Management challenged Ziger|Snead to design their new office space, located in the iconic Natty Boh Tower in Baltimore’s Brewers Hill neighborhood, within a condensed timeline and tight budget.

The new office is a big shift for the firm in regards to how they think about their work and their environment. The open floor plan is supported by private offices around the perimeter.

The open floor plan and neutral palette of materials allows the design to be a back drop to the character of the original building. Clean lines and simple materials frame the historic building’s charm. The visual openness is continued by the use of glass walls for the perimeter offices while still providing privacy. The community kitchen space offers small pops of color to accent the space and the firm’s brand.

A second floor mezzanine is introduced to incorporate much needed additional workspaces for employees. The mezzanine’s clean design optimizes the integration of exposed light fixtures and conduits to within a foot, maximizing the space above and below it. The custom staircase incorporates perforated risers and rails to maintain the openness of the space while also being a strong design focal point.
