Academy Art Museum Renovation & Courtyard Enclosure

Cultural, Historic

View Gallery

Located in Easton, Maryland the Academy Art Museum is a cultural arts center housing an impressive art collection; as well as providing community exhibitions and a broad spectrum of arts programs. The museum is located in one of Easton’s historic landmarks; the original chartered “School House” constructed in 1820. Later additions added the adjacent Thomas-Hardcastle house with new program space and creating an internal, outdoor courtyard. Seeking to further expand the museum’s programming; Ziger/Snead was hired to enclose the outdoor courtyard with a delicate, glass roof structure designed to be sympathetic and deferring to the historic structures. This new enclosed space is designed to provide a year-round event space for lecture series, jazz concerts, film, art and sculpture exhibits.
