Matt immerses himself into an environment, a problem, or a new situation with an earnest quest to understand the givens, ask questions about the unknowns, simplify the options, and deduce the best outcome. He builds upon his extensive experience on projects ranging from a bold adaptive reuse of historic pier buildings into a net-zero energy building for a museum of science to a lake boathouse that is seamlessly integrated into the surrounding landscape. An understanding of setting, user functionality, creative adaptation of sustainable technologies, and the character of natural light focus and inform his design solutions. His interests extend beyond the built environment to furniture design, lighting design, and a love of the outdoors.
